The mission of the Children's Garden, created in 2007, is to delight children and nurture their sense of wonder in nature. This beautiful place for fun, exploration and learning includes six raised beds where youth groups grow vegetables, plus a sensory herb garden, a garden full of plants with animal names, a fairy garden, and a butterfly garden planted by the Penn State Master Gardeners.

The Children's Garden is a grass-roots, 100 percent volunteer effort and is a partnership of the Centre County Library, the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Centre County and the Bellefonte Garden Club, a part of the non-profit Historic Bellefonte, Inc. It is located behind the Library's Historical Museum at the corner of North Allegheny and Howard Streets. A group of passionate gardeners, hoping to better connect our children with the natural world, first broke ground in 2007.

Providing fun and educational programs for children, families, and youth groups, the garden is completely organic. Past programs included a lady bug release (beneficial insects in the garden), butterflies in the garden, annual planting day, harvest celebration, making stepping stones, garden story time.

The garden is open to the public for strolling and admiring. Come grow with us! Contact Beverly Harader at (814) 355-4174.
